Course Description

This course applies to persons who are required to wear breathing apparatus for part of their job because they are working in a confined space, with hazardous gases/vapours, in irrespirable atmospheres or for other applications requiring the wearing of breathing apparatus.

 

Course Content

  • Purpose of Breathing Apparatus

  • Requirements of the wearer

  • Set construction

  • Irrespirable atmosphere

  • Set’s duration

  • Wearer safety

  • Donning and starting procedures

  • After use maintenance

 

The ability to;

  • Interpret any permits or other documentation associated with the wearing of breathing apparatus for the job.

  • Writing is required to the level of completing required workplace reports.

  • Numeracy is required to enable the determination of the available working time from a breathing apparatus set and similar activities.

  • Wear harnesses and/or other PPE as required

  • Perform manual handling tasks and strenuous activities

Those that suffer from claustrophobia may find it difficult to wear Breathing Apparatus and fulfil the requirements of the course.   If all requirements cannot be achieved a Statement of Attainment cannot be issued.

 

Additional entry requirements for Blended Learning.

  • Computer skills such as web navigation and basic typing

  • Access to a computer or tablet with a stable internet connection

  • Webcam and Preferably a Head Set / Earphones – Virtual Classroom only
