In this course, students will gain both a theoretical understanding and opportunities for practical application of payroll knowledge. Students will be introduced to payroll legislation, withholding calculations, contractual obligations for different stakeholders and accounting as it pertains to the payroll process.
Upon completion of this course, and ample career experience, students may be able to challenge the Canadian Payroll Association Exams.
Learning outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, students will have the knowledge and skills necessary in order to:
Understand Canadian payroll
Understand the legislation surrounding payroll, labour and employment standards
Calculate employee net pay
Understand the necessary withholdings, including pensionable, insurable, taxable and non-statutory
Create a year-end payroll report
