Sweet Bytes began as my home bakery business. It was a bustling adventure, and I loved doing it. However, I missed being around students so much that I returned to my teaching roots and combined my love and baking with my love of teaching. Now Sweet Bytes is an online resource for enthusiastic bakers and I still get to teach!
I’m Mikel, my official job title here at Sweet Bytes is “Deliciousness Maker.” I started calling myself that back when I started my home bakery because I was too afraid to call myself a “baker” without official training. After I printed Deliciousness Maker on my business cards, it stuck!
The more I worked at baking and decorating, the better I got. Eventually I became a Certified Wilton Method Instructor. I taught Wilton Method Classes for 2 years until they ended the program, and now I teach courses as an adjunct instructor for Francis Tuttle Technical Center.
My other professional credentials are that I have a BFA in Painting and am certified to teach pre-K through 12th grade art in Oklahoma and Texas. In fact, I taught public school art for over 20 years! During my tenure as an art teacher earned the National Board Certified Teacher certificate for Early- Middle Child. (Of which I was very proud because it was extremely hard to earn!)
My baking practice is all from scratch, using real food ingredients, and making it look as amazing as it tastes. My home bakery tagline that was printed on all of my bakery boxes was “Tastes Like Happy” and that’s still my goal for every recipe I make and dessert share.
