Accredited by the Technical Standards & Safety Authority (TSSA), the Power Engineering Techniques – Fourth Class program is designed to introduce you to the theoretical and practical aspects of power generation and plant operation.
In class theory will be applied through experiential learning in Durham College’s state-of-the-art registered Power Plant.
By combining virtual reality technology with electrical labs, students can gain practical experience and develop critical skills in a dynamic and engaging way. Students who successfully complete this program may be eligible for a nine-month reduction of qualifying experience time (steam time).
After successfully completing TSSA testing and acquiring three months of industry experience, graduates may qualify for their Fourth-Class Operating Engineer Certificate of Qualification.

Domestic applicants that are 19 years of age or older as of the start date of their program, and who do not have the required program credit(s) i.e., Grade 12 English and/or Grade 12 math are eligible to take an admissions assessment test.

Fifth Class prepares you to take the Provincial Fifth Class Power Engineering exam or the equivalent low-pressure heating plant certificate provincial exam.
