Students are introduced to the basic fundamental steps of most general dance styles such as skipping, walking on tiptoes, marching, and much more in a fun and relaxed environment.
These skills will help develop techniques used in most dance styles as well as general coordination. Teachers use props such as wands, scarves, flags, and musical instruments to help keep students engaged. Musicality is also an important aspect of these classes.
Anna Lee School of Dance is one of the premiere dance schools in the greater Christchurch area.
We have studios in Papanui, Sumner, Ferrymead, Halswell and the Selwyn District, students have the opportunity to learn dance styles including ballet, jazz, hip hop and contemporary.
Our ALSD prides itself in providing a high standard of technical teaching that enables students to sit exams and medal tests if they wish. Anna Lee School of Dance has a proven history of students excelling with superb exam, medal and competition results.
Past pupils from the school have gone on to train full time and dance, in both New Zealand and abroad, as well as current students training at the New Zealand School of Dance in their Associate Program.
Dance classes are tailored for pre-schoolers through to advanced students. The fun and supportive environment with its’ emphasis on enjoyment ensures students feel comfortable as they learn to dance.
ALSD caters for all levels of commitment. We acknowledge and support all the different reasons our students choose to dance and we strive to provide classes that will cater for every student’s needs, whether it be for fitness and fun, or in the hope of entering into a career in dance.

A parent & child dance class for kids 18months-2.5 years.
Our tailor made DFX Dance classes for 2.5 – 5 year olds are designed to give them the best start to their dance journey, the dancers learn the fundamentals of jazz and ballet.
The children will experience not only an introduction to ballet but they will get to learn some snazzy jazz moves as well. This class provides the perfect introduction to the world of dance.
For students aged 2-4 years. Fun classes that build confidence and a love of dance.Â
