Born out of "Dance On It Studios" in 2020, Vertical Performing Arts is committed to providing excellent, accessible training to children and adults in the performing arts. We are passionate about raising up well-rounded artists who are both skilled technically but also confident in using their talents to impact and communicate with the world around them.
We prioritize forming a personal connection with each our students and families and creating a space where everyone feels like they belong. We recognize that each dancer and each family is unique and desire that each member of our community feels valued and prioritized.
We believe that dance should be available and accessible to all and have a Financial Aid program to help families afford dance classes. We also have a wonderful partnership with Embrace Arts Foundation to ensure that everyone has a space to dance and create no regardless of physical or mental abilities.
We value relationship over performance. We encourage our faculty to spend time each class connecting with the students, allowing them to share their personal struggles and victories and are always available to provide additional support and prayer when needed.
Tap was initially popularized in Hollywood by such great dancers as Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers and Shirley Temple and more recently, by the hugely popular performers Tap Dogs, Stomp and Riverdance.
Students finish the season in June performing in our annual year-end recital at the Conexus Arts Centre but does not participate in competition. The competitive Pre-Primary ballet class is recommended at this level for students with previous dance experience.Â
Tap dancing originated in the United States in the late 20th century and is widely known for its unique use of sound
Students will learn the basics of tap technique while developing a sense of rhythm, coordination and timing. Shuffle, ball change and stomp your way through a fun class that combines rhythm, sound and movement.
If you or your child loves to make noise or follow the beat with your feet, then Tap is for you. Every student’s year culminates in the annual performances in June at the Winnipeg Centennial Concert Hall. We’ll see you on stage!
