Professional Hospitality Team Member, Apprenticeship

From front-of-house operations to customer service and event coordination, you will gain valuable skills and firsthand knowledge of the hospitality industry. Your apprenticeship will set the foundation for a rewarding career in an industry that values excellence and genuine hospitality.

Specialist areas in hospitality include food and beverage service, serving alcoholic beverages, barista, food preparation, housekeeping, concierge and guest services, reception, reservations and conference and banqueting.

The role is very varied and although hospitality team members tend to specialise in an area, they must be adaptable and ready to support team members across the business, for example during busy periods. As the name suggests, being a good team member is hugely important in this role.

An apprenticeship provides a unique opportunity to acquire industry-specific qualifications and valuable hands-on experience while earning a salary. You’ll have the chance to work closely with experienced professionals in the hospitality industry, meaning you’ll gain practical skills that make you highly employable and give you a head start in your career.

When you study with us, you’ll become part of our Hospitality & Catering Career Excellence Hub, which means you’ll enjoy a host of career-boosting benefits and unrivalled access to potential employers.

You will benefit from work experience opportunities, inspirational cooking experiences, masterclasses from renowned chefs and courses designed in collaboration with employers to meet industry demands.

You'll gain invaluable industry insight and create numerous networking opportunities. By the time you complete your training, you'll be fully prepared for your future career, armed with the skills and knowledge that employers value.

What Does This Course Invole

You will develop the skills and knowledge required to deliver first-class hospitality. You’ll learn to recognise customer needs, match them to the products and services of the business, and work as part of a team to ensure that every customer is looked after – whether they are eating in a restaurant, drinking cocktails in a bar, ordering room service in a hotel, or attending a business conference.

All hospitality team members must have the following introductory knowledge:

  • Understand what hospitality means; the culture of the industry and why delivering a customer experience to meet and exceed customer’s expectations is so important to hospitality businesses.

  • Appreciate the importance of hospitality behaviours such as personal conduct, being adaptable, using initiative and communicating with a diverse range of people.

  • Know the range of businesses and establishments that make up the hospitality industry, their differences and similarities and the variety of job roles and progression opportunities that are available.

Assessment Method

You will work on a portfolio as we go through the course and have an End Point Assessment (EPA).

Future Opportunties

You may like to progress onto the Hospitality, Supervisory and Leadership Diploma or equivalent apprenticeship.

Entry Requirements

Minimum 5 GCSE grade 9-2 with at least two at grade 4 (including maths and/or English) or a qualifying level 1 qualification. To be an apprentice, you will need to find a suitable employer.
