Our Recreational classes are suitable for boys and girls, beginners and those wanting to commit to one session per week. Classes are open to all as long as we have space. The programme provides a good introduction to gymnastics, children learn basic gymnastics and generic skills which are used in all sports, such as agility, balance and co-ordination.
City of Edinburgh Gymnastics Club was originally established by Edinburgh Leisure in 2006 to provide a development opportunities in Women’s Artistic Gymnastics beyond recreational gymnastics for those who have the ability to progress to a higher level.
In September 2009 the club separated from Edinburgh Leisure and became an independently constituted voluntary club. A voluntary committee of parents was elected to support the head coaches in the day to day running of the club.
In January 2010 the club expanded and established its own recreational classes, and a display section to provide opportunities for gymnasts who want to participate in the sport without the pressure and the time commitment required for competition. In late 2013, the club moved most of its competitive gymnasts to Tumbles Gymnastics Centre, a purposed built gymnastics facility owned and operated by Edinburgh Leisure. The club also used Hall 7 at Meadowbank Sports Centre, and various other facilities in the city.
To reflect the club’s success and growth, and to support future plans, the club became a company limited by guarantee at the end of 2016. The club still maintains a democratic constitution and not-for-profit club ethos. Parents of competitive and recreational gymnasts interested in having a say on how the club runs can become members of the company. This gives them the right to stand for election as a director, and gives them a vote at the club’s general meetings. The club employs five full and part time coaches, whilst retaining many of its existing part-time contracted coaches. Volunteers continue to make a huge contribution.
The recreational classes develop a variety of basic gymnastics skills in a fun environment.
Acrobatic Gymnastics is offered by Woodlands Gymnastics. Acrobatic gymnastics is a competitive gymnastic discipline where partnerships of gymnasts work together and perform figures consisting of acrobatic moves, dance and tumbling, set to music.
Our tumbling program is the perfect place to start if you’re looking for something fun and challenging for your child. Our athletes work at their own pace and individual skill level during our beginner classes.
Recreational Gymnastics course is offered by North London Rhythmic Gymnastics Academy. Through individual attention, we provide every program to best meet the needs of each child. We are proud to create an outstanding training gymnastics environment for all children
