The Future Academy journey
Future Academy’s story began with the resignation of Ms Yvonne Chen as a Physics and Mathematics teacher at Raffles Girls’ School. Despite having left the service, many of her past students requested for private tuition as they found her way of teaching effective for them.
So, Ms Chen began to organise small group tutoring classes, which allowed the students to receive one-on-one attention while keeping tuition fees affordable for the parents.
As word spread about Ms Chen’s effective tutoring services, demand for her classes grew. Eventually, Ms Chen decided to start a tuition centre – and the first Future Academy, a tuition centre in Bugis, was launched in March, 2015.
In the next few years, more tutors came on board Future Academy to diversify the subjects and levels of tuition that the tuition centre could offer.
One of them was Mr Lau Hock Soon (Jason), a renowned teacher and former Mathematics Head of Department (HOD) at Hwa Chong Institution.
To meet the rising demands for tuition, Future Academy officially launched its second branch in 2017, a tuition centre in Bukit Timah.
This centre addresses the huge student population in the area, including students from schools like Methodist Girls’ School, Nanyang Girls’ High School, National Junior College, and Hwa Chong Institution.
From 2017 to 2019, Future Academy’s student population continued to grow, and the tuition centre helped many students attain their target scores for PSLE, O Levels, and A Levels.
In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic triggered a nationwide Circuit Breaker. Thankfully, Future Academy was ready to offer online tuition to all students.
Even after the Circuit Breakers, the online and hybrid class formats remain available to allow students more flexibility in their learning.
Despite the challenging circumstances during COVID-19, Future Academy bounced back in 2021 with a new tuition centre in Braddell, located to serve students from nearby schools like Raffles Girls’ School, Raffles Institution, Eunoia Junior College, and Catholic High School.
