Our class sizes are small, allowing teachers to focus on each student as an individual, and our teachers are all native Spanish speakers.
Programs of Study
Study plans are designed using the knowledge and experience of the teachers involved, as well as other educators from the Americas.
Four Criteria are used on which to base the plans of study:
We feel that it is vital to include practical applications of Spanish in the context of the Hispanic communities in Calgary. We would like our students to be able to express themselves in Spanish and to practice while taking part in activities that will expand their understanding of a diversity of Hispanic cultures.
The Spanish School of Calgary was started in Calgary in the year 2000 by volunteers who believed that knowledge of a language and cultures other than our own is helpful in enhancing every aspect of our lives. The teachers of the Spanish School of Calgary understand that individuals learn in different ways and have developed learning strategies to meet these differing needs.
We have small class sizes, low registration rates, and are a community based school. Our mission is to provide a welcoming and informative school environment for people of all ages who want to learn Spanish and who want to know more about Hispanic culture.
Our regular program is based on the four components of Conversa’s communicative approach to language training. Conversation is practiced at each class. Participants practice what is required to say in day-to-day situations and hold conversations with each other.
