“We not only care about how to dance, we care about who we are.”
Since opening our doors in 1954, the Saskatoon School of Dance has been nurturing the love of dance in our students and providing a welcoming Family atmosphere as well as world class dancers and teachers.
Our group of experienced talented teachers and wonderful mix of genres make for a unique dance experience. We have a passion for the art of dance and for helping others discover their inner dancer and inner person.
Dancers can develop lifetime friendships and gain confidence all the while learning the art of dance.
Our tappers step in time to the ADAPT syllabus with the option to also learn the Canadian Dance Teachers’ Association (CDTA) syllabus to supplement their repertoire in the Pre-Professional program.
Tap is the percussion of dance. Rhythm and musicality are the focus of this class. All styles are taught from soft shoe to hoofing.
Broadway tap focuses more on the ‘dance’ and is widely performed as a part of musical theatre. Rhythm tap focuses more on musicality, and practitioners consider themselves to be a part of the jazz tradition.
While learning basic tap sounds through graded levels, students will learn to identify basic rhythmic sequences and eventually more intricate syncopation within a variety of musical phrases.
