Learn:
Learning proper dance technique is of utmost importance to us at Evolutions School of Dance. We pride ourselves on our first-rate dance education and providing age and developmentally appropriate classes. Our faculty is carefully selected and all hold a variety of professional dance and educational designations, as well as extensive teaching experience.
Connect:
Connection with our students, our faculty and the families of Evolutions School of Dance is crucial to the success of our dancers and studio. We provide an encouraging and supportive atmosphere which allows our dancers to connect with others, resulting in their growth both as dancers and members of our dance family.
Inspire:
We want all of our dancers to leave the studio after each class feeling inspired. We focus on positive relationships, building each other up, and motivating ourselves and one another. This is the fuel that keeps us striving to be better dancers, better teachers, and a better dance studio.
Our vision has always been to be a dance studio that focuses on technique and artistry but also values, respects and “gets” children. Growing up people told us we were “kid magnets”!
Wherever we went we attracted children: a baby smiling at us at the grocery store, a child approaching us to tell us a story on public transit, or that time Stephanie was travelling in Turkey and she literally had a handful of children who didn’t speak English hanging off of her… you name it, we have a story about children and how we are naturally drawn to each other…
We grew up with the dance studio as our second home. We were fortunate to have a mom who valued the technique, artistry, relationships and life skills that dance provides.
We trained at dance studios in Calgary from the age of 3, gaining a vast knowledge in a variety of dance genres. Dance has always been a part of who we are and it was a childhood dream to own a dance studio. We are extremely privileged to do what we do and share our love of dance with the students and families of ESD.
Tap dance has roots in dancing such as the Juba Dance, Clogging & Irish Step. By the mid 1900’s, Irish and British clogging steps were combined to create “buck and wing”, which became Modern Tap.
Class consisting of instruction in both tap and ballet disciplines as a progression from basic pre-school introductory. At this level dancers will start to learn more complex stationary steps and stage movement.
Boys often enjoy the intricacies & challenges of the footwork. While upper body & arm lines are important in Tap, they are freer than its counterpart, Classical Ballet. This less structured upper body placement with the single focus of footwork skills, also appeal to male students.
Students will learn basic tap techniques as well as explore improvisation, musicality, and elements of percussion. Basic music theory and concepts will be introduced.
