Tap is an exciting style of dance with a rich history dating back over a century that incorporates shoes equipped with metal “taps” to create percussive sounds along with rhythmic footwork.
Tap dance has the transformative power to make the body a dynamic sound machine! Each week when your child puts their tap shoes on they will feel a lively beat bubbling up inside of them.
As tap dancers, they will live, breathe, feel, and experience the playfulness, creativity, and wonder that comes from making music. Students will develop a deep understanding of phrasing and musical form, improve rhythm and co-ordination, and have a tremendously Loud amount of fun!
Classes follow a syllabus of studies that is routinely updated to ensure it is at the forefront of dance education.
Free House Dance Plus was founded in 1988 by director Kathie Bernard in answer to a need for a quality, non-competitive dance studio with a personalized, inclusive, feel-good environment.
In 1991, serendipity brought the school to its current excellent, bright, convenient location in the quiet inner-city residential community of Briar Hill. FREE HOUSE Dance Plus operates in a single use, purpose-built facility with 4 bright & open classrooms.
Nearby, our students enjoy plentiful amenity space, adjacency to a family-friendly park and a short two block walk to the Lion’s Park LRT station.
Our Mission:
To educate – our focus, our mandate, our passion.
To ignite – your passion, your creativity, your inspiration.
To create – community, awareness, connection.
Students Will Gain An Understanding Of The Music While Learning To Control Their Bodies
Steps of varying difficulty are taught progressively through the year, allowing each dancer to master techniques at his/her own pace. One of the first dance forms to be created, tap is a fun class anyone can enjoy!
Class consisting of instruction in both tap and ballet disciplines as a progression from basic pre-school introductory. At this level dancers will start to learn more complex stationary steps and stage movement.
Ankle mobility, weight placement, and glute activation are key components. Tyneal approaches Tap from a fundamental movement approach with proper conditioning and biomechanical techniques, while weaving in the history and rhythm of the steps.
Boys often enjoy the intricacies & challenges of the footwork. While upper body & arm lines are important in Tap, they are freer than its counterpart, Classical Ballet. This less structured upper body placement with the single focus of footwork skills, also appeal to male students.Â
