Tap Dance is a percussive style that originated in the United States in the 1700’s. Using shoes with metal plates to create sound, students develop coordination, precision, rhythmic skills, and musicality.

Classes culminate in learning choreography as well as practicing improvisation.
In the heart of the Brooklyn Cultural District, the Mark Morris Dance Center, founded in 2001, is the hub of dance and music education in Brooklyn. The nine-studio building provides affordable classes in multiple genres for people of all ages, levels, with and without disabilities, accompanied by live music.
The studios, a performance space, a Wellness Center, and ancillary spaces are all available to the community and to nonprofit organizations at subsidized rates. MMDG’s Community Education Programs partner with public and private schools and community centers to provide customized classes.
MMDG also offers customized dance workshops for persons with Parkinson’s disease and their caregivers. MMDG programs in NYC and worldwide engage nearly 100,000 people annually.
Tap II Tech Dance Classes are offered by Dancyn Studio for all ages and skill level. At Dancyn Studio we prepare our dancers for a future of success. By ingraining the values of hard work, discipline, and teamwork, they gain a solid foundation of dance excellence.
This fun class will teach dancers the history of tap as well as time steps, rhythm tap, and combinations of steps and sounds. Tap is more than just making sounds with your feet. It is about expressing yourself, percussively, with your feet and body, making music, and making statements.
For anyone who has been excited by the syncopated rhythms of a tap dancer’s feet, we have a class for you. Tap builds concentration, coordination, rhythm, speed, and dexterity that offers a broad knowledge of the classical style as well as contemporary and rhythm tap technique.

From beginner through advanced, technique and the vocabulary of tap is emphasized. Music pulled from swing, big band, blues, rock, jazz and musical theatre standards accompany our traditional/classic and theatre dance styles of tap.
