On completion of the Woodwork Foundation Course you will be welcome to develop your woodworking skills further through project work during the daytime or evening classes.
Project work classes can be taken on Wednesday evenings from 7.30 - 10pm for 13 weeks. Project classes do not include the cost of materials.
As your skills develop you will be able to design and make furniture in your own home.
Popular projects taken on after completion of the Foundation Course have been:
Bristol Women’s Workshop exists to give women the opportunity to gain experience in traditionally male skills, one being woodwork.
You will use all the major hand tools to build projects with traditional joinery methods safely and effectively. We restrict our class sizes to a maximum of 8 people to ensure that students benefit from one-to-one attention and support.
We don't use machinery because we believe that working with hand tools will teach you to be a better woodworker. One who is not bound by the constraints of a machine will learn how to saw accurately along a line, plane a surface flat, chisel with precision and gain a better understanding of your materials with a more gratifying experience.
Many people want to begin woodwork but need a bench. (How do I build a bench if I do not have a bench on which to build a bench…….) Over the past couple of years we have made a number of “modern benches” to our specific design.
Woodworking course is offered by Hive Bradford. Hive is a community arts charity in Shipley, Bradford. We deliver arts and crafts courses, workshops and projects from our centre in Shipley and across Bradford District.
This course offers an excellent introduction to woodworking techniques, starting from the basics and progressing towards constructing your own woodwork projects.
You will complete a minimum of 30 hours of on-the-job experience within the industry and have the opportunity to work on many live projects in the community.
This starts with an overview of common furniture woods and their qualities as well as the basic hand tools and how to sharpen them.
