In the interest of consumer safety, nutritional security and public health, there is a need for producing safe and wholesome food and food products. It has to be ensured that such food comply with domestic standards and also international standards if meant for exports.
There is need for testing of all imported food products to ensure their compliance with domestic standards. Besides this, the level of contaminants like heavy metals, pesticide and antibiotic residues.
Pathogens as well as any other unsafe material in food need to be analysed and monitored regularly. Therefore, a robust management system coupled with network of food analytical services need to be put in place.
