Edith Buchanan is a Counselling Psychologist specialising in individual, couple and career counselling in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth).
She holds a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology from UPE (now NMU); an Honours Degree from Rhodes University; and a Secondary Teacher’s Diploma from UCT. Edith is also registered as a Counselling Psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and her experience has developed over many decades.
She has experience working at the Department of Labour and has completed contract work in commerce and industry. She also has 15 years of experience working in the Student Counselling Department at the PE Technikon and NMU.
Today, Edith operates a private practice from her home-based office in the suburb of Walmer, Port Elizabeth. Her counselling services are aimed at helping clients successfully navigate a variety of personal issues, relationship problems and significant life changes.
By employing the appropriate treatment approach for each client, Edith helps individuals develop coping skills for personal issues such as anxiety, depression, HIV/AIDS, stress, trauma and grief over the loss of a loved one. Her counselling services are also available for couples who are in a relationship, married or going through a divorce.
For adolescents in Grades 9, 11 and 12, Edith can provide subject choice and career guidance through counselling, interviews and aptitude assessments. She also helps adults deal with the pressures of work and adjust to career changes such as retirement, retrenchment and unemployment.
Edith’s one-hour counselling sessions are available six days a week and appointments can conveniently be scheduled via email, telephone, SMS or WhatsApp message.
