Pumphreys of Newcastle upon Tyne are award winning coffee suppliers established in 1750 offering the finest quality coffee and tea to all our customers at home, in wholesale and around the UK in coffee shops.

Pumphreys Coffee truly is a family business. Directors Stuart Archer (Snr) and his son Stuart Archer (Jnr) provide top quality coffee and are dedicated to meeting our customers’ requirements whether that be coffee beans, teas, brewing equipment, or espresso machinery.

 

Flame Roasted Coffee Beans the Traditional Way

Pumphreys purchase the finest coffee beans from around the world and roast them to order in the traditional way with flames.

Using traditional open flame roasting drums dating back over 80 years and with the careful eye of our master roaster Stuart Lee Archer Pumphreys ensuring that you get the delicious tasting, fresh coffee of your choice.

 

Purveyors In Perfection Since 1750

The business, which later became known as Pumphreys, was established by a gentleman named Leigh Smith in the Flesh Market in the heart of the city of Newcastle (opposite the Bigg Market) in 1750, and was sold to George Richardson in 1800. George Richardson has been described as a "Quaker, businessman, tanner, grocer and dealer in Tea."

Since 1983, Pumphreys Coffee has been based at Bridge Street, Blaydon, Newcastle upon Tyne. This site comprises of a warehouse, factory, training room and a coffee shop, its open to the public and also helps commercial customers buy roasted coffee beans wholesale. Also in 1983, we opened our first coffee shop in the prestigious Grainer market.
