Learn how to properly use domestic espresso machines, grinders and other common home-use equipment; so that you can get the most out of your home brewing! On this course we cover a variety of topics, ranging from how to store your coffee, to the importance of your grind.
This coffee theory then compliments the hands on aspects of the course; allowing you to try out your recently acquired knowledge, by using the equipment you have just discussed. Equipment used ranges from Burr and Blade Grinders, to Cafetieres, Aeropresses and Espresso Machines.
Our sessions are kept to small groups to maximise the learning potential of those who take part.
Home Barista Essentials is run at our purpose built training facilities in Blaydon (NE21 4JJ). This course tends to run on Wednesdays from 9am to 12pm - exact dates can be found above.

The business, which later became known as Pumphreys, was established by a gentleman named Leigh Smith in the Flesh Market in the heart of the city of Newcastle (opposite the Bigg Market) in 1750, and was sold to George Richardson in 1800. George Richardson has been described as a "Quaker, businessman, tanner, grocer and dealer in Tea."
Since 1983, Pumphreys Coffee has been based at Bridge Street, Blaydon, Newcastle upon Tyne. This site comprises of a warehouse, factory, training room and a coffee shop, its open to the public and also helps commercial customers buy roasted coffee beans wholesale. Also in 1983, we opened our first coffee shop in the prestigious Grainer market.
This course will explore recipe creation and its predictable outcomes and variables.
You will learn some fun facts and even a little bit of science about your favourite drink from Gavin, who has been a professional barista for over 20 years. He will explain the differences in techniques used to make the perfect coffee, advise you on what will work best for you at home and even how
Whether you're new to making coffee or a veteran home barista, this course aims to up your knowledge level, perfect your technique and eek out every ounce of flavour from your beans.
Learn how the espresso works and you will also be able to learn how to steam the milk to improve your latte art.
This is followed by a featured 2-course lunch and a raffle of all the dishes demonstrated. A selection of alcoholic drinks will be available to purchase throughout the event. Expect lots of fun, culinary chat, tips, great food and recipe ideas.
