Established in 1988 as a sewing machine retail and repair service, Wellington Sewing Centre has grown to become a trusted source of quality supplies for all fabric and yarn-based crafts.
Under new ownership since 2016, we've expanded our yarn and dress fabric selections, developed a full schedule of classes for local adults and children and built our online capability so that creative people all around New Zealand have ready access to our products.
Alongside the changes, we've retained the business's original focus: we sell six brands of new sewing machines and have an expert repair person available to service domestic machines.
In this ever-popular class, professional seamstress Maria will teach the techniques of fitting a dress bodice to your (or someone else’s) body shape. Bring a tape measure, pen and paper and your lunch.
Choose a design from our selection of The Stitchsmith’s modern NZ-inspired range and learn basic embroidery stitches that will set you up for all your future projects. Pattern included - hoop and embroidery threads available from the shop.
Learn the basics of knitting in this six hour class over three sessions - casting on, knit and purl stitches, increasing and decreasing and casting off. Bring a 50gm ball of double knitting (8 ply) cotton yarn and 4mm knitting needles.
Learn how to sew in a day! We’ll cover basic sewing and machine techniques in this one-day workshop and you’ll take away a lined, patchwork tote bag. All materials provided but bring lunch and your machine* (or arrange to borrow one of ours).
