All of our Acro classes are based on the Acrobatic Arts syllabus and taught by Certified Acrobatic Arts teachers.
Acro (a.k.a. acro dance or acrobatic dance) is a cutting-edge style of dance that has gained popularity over the last while as international audiences and dancers alike become familiar with its presence at competitions, as well as on stage in productions like Cirque du Soleil.
Acro combines unique choreography, classical dance, and distinctive acrobatic elements.
You may find Acro dance looks similar to the floor apparatus of Women’s Artistic Gymnastics; however, it has several differences, in both approach and execution.
We work primarily on strength, flexibility, and acrobatic elements in our Acro classes, so we highly encourage all dancers taking an Acro class to also take one or more classes in other dance disciplines.
This will make it easier for dancers to understand the Acro technique and also help develop their artistry and basic dance skills.
All of our Acro classes are based on the Acrobatic Arts syllabus and taught by Certified Acrobatic Arts teachers.
Since 1986, the Canadian School of Dance (CSD) and its co-founders and co-directors, Fran Coyle (A.R.A.D., T.D., A.I.S.T.D.) and Monica Adjeleian (A.R.A.D., Honours I.S.T.D.) have prided themselves on maintaining the highest standards of dance training.
Over the years, our CSD teachers have educated and inspired thousands of individuals by using established and renowned syllabus structures, as well as their artistic talents, to train award-winning and high-achieving dancers.
In a supportive and encouraging environment, we strive to motivate each student to reach their full potential as a dancer. CSD has earned a reputation not only for excellence in dance training but also for our safe and warm environment built on a philosophy that believes every person can learn to dance, regardless of age and perceived abilities.
We offer a variety of programs at our studio, ranging from a recreational program for those who want to get their bodies moving and learn new skills, to a high-intensity, high-commitment level competitive program designed to prepare dancers for the professional world of dance. We offer classes in a diverse range of disciplines to accommodate aspiring dancers of all interests.
The instructor will also teach parents some simple ways to help their child practice which can be a fun way to spend family time together.
Classes run from September to June but do not participate in the year end recital or competition. The main purpose for this class is for continuous training and strengthening throughout the dance season.
Dancers are challenged by combining acrobatics skills with dance steps. We blend tricks, balance, flexibility, tumbling and dance technique. Most importantly, it is all done in a fun and artistic way. We recommend dancers take jazz or have jazz experience.
The focus of this class is to teach students acrobatics and how these skills can be incorporated in dance. Acro is a physically demanding activity, therefore, Acro dancers must be in excellent physical condition.
This style mixes floor gymnastics and dancing. The dancers in this class work a lot on flexibility, lifts and acrobatic figures while learning a choreography
