You do not need any prior experience to come on this course. There is a progression from one joint to the next, and some basic skills are repeated in later joints. You do not have to attend every session, but it is recommended that you do in order to develop and build upon your skills.

The quality of your joint making will require accuracy and attention to detail. Gareth will show you different ways and use different hand tools, so that you can work out which way works best for you. At the end of each session you will take home an example of each joint you have made.

The Level 2 Diploma in Sit Joinery builds on the content of the foundation learning programme in Joinery, further developing your knowledge and skills in College rather than in a working environment.
The course gives you the opportunity to study both the knowledge and practical aspects of Furniture Making at Level 1 and it covers the basic aspects of cabinet making, wood machining and wood finishing.
This course is suitable if you have a keen interest in wood occupations and would like to start your journey towards a career in site carpentry or architectural joinery.
This largely practical programme is for individuals who have a genuine interest in carpentry or joinery and wish to gain employment in the industry. Progression after the programme could be onto Level 2 Carpentry, Advanced Construction Award or employment in the industry; or an Apprenticeship.
