It is recognized that more than 90% of accidents are caused by unsafe practices and unsafe behaviour. Behavioural safety audit is a management tool that provides a systemic approach to preventing unsafe practices.

The course in Behaviour Safety Audit (Leadership Safety Audit) is based on psychological methods that have been tested in various industries and may significantly affect the safety of employees’ behaviour. These methods are as follows:

  • supervision over workers in the course of operations;

  • conversation with workers about their activities and their unsafe practices or unsafe behaviour observed;

  • listening to their opinion and giving feedback.

?The course in Behaviour Safety Audit (Leadership Safety Audit) will help an organization improve its health and safety performance and create a positive health and safety culture in the workplace through the following measures:

  • providing a platform for managers where they can demonstrate their commitment to occupational safety;

  • analysing employees’ unsafe working practices and unsafe behaviour in the workplace;

  • reviewing and improving the existing health and safety standards;

  • improving feedback and mutual understanding in the health and safety area;

The goals of the course are to improve employees’ skills in conducting Behaviour Safety Audits (Leadership  Safety Audits), enhance their awareness of hazards and ensure active participation of every employee in risk monitoring and control.

As a result of the training, learners should be able to:

  • conduct Behaviour Safety audits (Leadership Safety Audits) independently to reinforce workers’ safe behaviour;

  • identify unsafe practices and unsafe conditions at a job site;

  • correct unsafe practices effectively and encourage safe behaviour;

  • contribute to reinforcing safe practices and safe behaviour;

  • be aware of how their own attitudes and behaviour affect the attitudes and behaviour of others.

 

Who Is This Course For?

The course in Behaviour Safety Audit (Leadership Safety Audit) is designed to help managers at all levels and health and safety specialists acquire new skills in improving health, safety and environment in their companies, upgrade their qualifications and enable them to fulfill their health and safety responsibilities better.

 

What Is The Course Structure?

The program is divided into 2 parts. In the morning, participants study in class and learn the principles of Behaviour Safety Audit (Leadership Safety Audit) and its basic methods.

After lunch, participants together with their trainer practice the Behaviour Safety Audit (Leadership Safety Audit) methods studied during the morning session.

The trainer demonstrates Behaviour Safety Audit (Leadership Safety Audit) skills, after which learners can try their own hand at conducting an audit with the trainer’s support.

If on-site classes are impossible from a practical point of view, then alternative methods will be used (role playing). After the practical part, analysis of the conducted audits follows in the classroom.
9 am – 1 pm – Classroom session. Workshop discussion:

  • HSE leadership;

  • Causes of incidents. Unsafe practices and unsafe conditions;

  • Benefits of Behaviour Safety Audits (Leadership Safety Audits);

  • Enhancing skills at monitoring workers;

  • How to praise personnel for working safely;

  • How to comment on workers’ unsafe behaviour;

  • Planning Behaviour Safety Audits (Leadership Safety Audits). How to fill out a Behaviour Safety Audit (Leadership Safety Audit) form;

  • Using Behaviour Safety Audit (Leadership Safety Audit) findings to improve HSE management systems.

1 pm – 2 pm – Lunch.
2 pm – 5:30 pm– Practical session: Conducting a Behaviour Safety Audit (Leadership Safety Audit) under the trainer’s guidance – on site or in class (role playing).
5:30 pm – 6 pm – Drawing conclusions and discussing Behaviour Safety Audit (Leadership Safety Audit) findings.

 

Is It Practical? Is It Fun?

The course is interactive, and it is based on the interaction between an instructor and participants. To illustrate the learning materials, an instructor uses a variety of examples from international companies’ practices as well as the client company’s standards and procedures.

The program is designed as a workshop (a lecture, group work with analysis of business cases, and role playing). Participants will be able to apply the knowledge and skills they acquired during the course at a real-life operating facility or during role playing.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be issued a certificate of completion.
