We’ll be teaching some basic solo jazz steps and then exploring the idea of integrating them with our partner dancing!
Lindy Hop is the original Swing Dance, developed by the Black community in Harlem in the 1920s and 1930s. There are numerous other swing dances out there, but virtually all of them evolved out of the patterns and rhythms of the Lindy Hop. The dance still has a large and active following throughout the world today!
Students will learn the defining movement concepts of jazz dance including isolations of the body, grounded musicality, improving performance quality and developing a capacity for complex rhythms and movement patterns
Working towards full height battments, extensions and leaps (right/left/center). Float leaps, chaine jete introduced. Double Pirouettes required.
Jazz is a comprehensive class that begins with a thorough warm-up and across-the-floor, ending with a choreographed combination. This art form is informed by traditional African & European folk dances and was influenced by the 1600s enslaved Africans.
This class is designed for novice dancers or students who have not danced for many years.
