You will also have the chance to compete in SkillBuild and inter-college competitions and the opportunity to gain your CSCS card, which would allow you to work on a site.

English and Maths
Anyone working in construction needs core English and maths skills to be able to calculate, measure and cut to precise angles.
English and maths will be embedded into practical and theory sessions, reinforcing the measure, mark and cut process and trade terminology for method statements and risk assessments.
Where can I progress?
On successful completion of the course you can progress onto Level 2 Carpentry or another construction course at Level 1.
You will need to reach the college benchmark for attendance in vocational topics, English, Maths, and work experience.

With a focus on NHBC Standards chapters 6.4 and 7.2, delegates will finish this course with a greater appreciation of the quality NHBC Inspectors expect to see on site.
On this Pre-apprenticeship you will learn a variety of skills such as joinery manufacturing and site carpentry. The work is varied and you could progress to work for a joinery company, site carpentry firm or a small building company.
You will complete a minimum of 30 hours of on-the-job experience within the industry and have the opportunity to work on many live projects in the community.
The Builder Training Centre (The BTC) offers high quality structured Carpentry Courses, which can be attended as a 5 day course during the week (Monday to Friday) or, for those that have commitments during the week, a weekend course (2 consecutive weekends).
