Do you enjoy learning in a hands-on way? This Carpentry and Joinery course is the perfect introduction to the construction industry and an opportunity to specialise in working with wood. 

You will be taught by tutors with years of experience in shopfitting and house building. You will learn core skills in producing basic woodworking joints and using various hand and power tools. 

You will also have the chance to compete in SkillBuild and inter-college competitions and the opportunity to gain your CSCS card, which would allow you to work on a site.

Entry requirements

  • English and maths at grade 3 or above

Anyone working in construction needs core English and maths skills to be able to calculate, measure and cut to precise angles.

English and maths will be embedded into practical and theory sessions, reinforcing the measure, mark and cut process and trade terminology for method statements and risk assessments.

Where can I progress?

On successful completion of the course you can progress onto Level 2 Carpentry or another construction course at Level 1.

You will need to reach the college benchmark for attendance in vocational topics, English, Maths, and work experience.
