Chinese forms the Sinitic branch of the Sino-Tibetan languages. Chinese languages are spoken by the ethnic Han Chinese majority and many minority ethnic groups in China. About 1.2 billion people speak some form of Chinese as their first language.

The varieties of Chinese are usually considered by native speakers to be regional variants of ethnic Chinese speech, without consideration of whether they are mutually intelligible.

Due to their lack of mutual intelligibility, linguists generally describe them as distinct languages, perhaps hundreds, sometimes noting that they are more varied than the Romance languages.

There are many positive sides to look upon for the language, as in:

  • As more and more young Indian and Chinese citizens are taking up courses in learning the language of both nations, as envisaged by the India-China Chambers of Commerce and Industry. As a result, the demand for Chinese language teachers and trainers is skyrocketing.

  • Many international agencies, like the World Bank, IMF, UNO, etc., require the services of professional Chinese speakers at various levels of operations. Also, some Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and Indian companies with global footprints employ Chinese speakers.

  • There are lucrative job opportunities in the BPO and KPO sectors where a lot of Chinese presence is helping to turn the Indian economy around. Since most Chinese don’t speak English, and the majority of Indians don’t speak Chinese.

  • Considering that very few people in India know or can communicate in Chinese, It means you will have the edge when competing for a job. In India, the demand for business people who are proficient in Chinese is skyrocketing.

Chinese is famous for having tons of homonyms and a lack of grammar. This can make it easy to get started… but hard to get good.
