Welcome to Lady Margaret Hall Settlement (LMHS), a Registered Charity that has been providing training, education and community development in Lambeth since 1897.
Having offered a wide variety of courses and enterprises throughout the decades, LMHS currently runs All Sewn Up (ASUP) – a project started in 1990 to deliver high quality sewing and textile classes.
Perfect for the complete beginner who wants to conquer the fear of sewing machines. The morning is divided into two halves starting at the very beginning. Learn how to thread a sewing machine, wind a bobbin and build confidence with control.
The class will work on a project which is set by the tutor. It covers pattern alteration, fabric choice, and fitting, pinning and cutting out. You’ll be shown how to use sewing machines and how to make and finish garments.
Two days of dressmaking suitable for anyone that can use a sewing machine and wants to add to their wardrobe. Many commercial patterns have tricky to follow instructions and the best way to improve is to keep adding to and practicing your sewing techniques.
This beginners course will take you step by step through the very basics of sewing. You will be taught over the space of 6 hours how to make your own casual men’s shorts or women’s flared pants along with tricks and professional techniques.
Our introductory sewing machine workshops cover all the basics of sewing techniques and the use of sewing machines, including needles, tensions, threads, stitches, plus darts, machine gathers, facings and under stitching, plus princess seams.
