In addition to regular classes, Studio J offers dedicated dancers the opportunity to participate in competition classes and workshops as part of the award winning Studio J Company. Lyrical dance combines the grace of ballet and jazz. The style shows great emotion through the art of dance as students learn to dance to the lyrics of music. You must be 8 years of age, or have teacher permission, and take ballet and jazz in order to take this class.
A combination of Horton, Graham, Jazz and Ballet with a fusion of ethnic dance technique. It's a passionate and emotional dance style that uses motion to interpret music. The choreography attempts to show the meaning of the lyrics of the music.
Contemporary II (Senior) dance classes are offered for all levels, modern classes begin as a creative movement with both classical and contemporary technique being introduced as students advance.
A form of dance that draws on modern dance technique and departs from classical dance technique by omitting structured form and movement.
Contemporary dance is based on ballet techniques, but is more free-spirited. Dancers explore emotions, and use their that to portray personal expression in their dance techniques. Some dancers wear half soles that support the ball of the foot, while others are barefoot.
