Course Details

Creative movement is a form of dance that provides the potential for personal expression. Rhythm and movement games teach students new ways to express themselves.

Students are encouraged to explore space and enjoy dancing by drawing inspiration from a range of external stimuli including music, props, emotions and working with other dancers.

  • Amber Lee Parker graduated with a B.F.A. from SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance in 2007. A resident of Brooklyn , New York , she graduated from Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and the Performing Arts in 2003, during which time she was also a fellowship student at The Ailey School. Also in 2003 she was a level 1 ARTS awardee for choreography from the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts and a presidential scholar nominee for her work "Dreams Perched on a Butterfly's Wings". Her works "Pass No.10 Movement II"and "Yield 360" received their international debut in Burgos, Spain under the direction of Kazuko Hirabayashi. She became the first American to be awarded within the top three, second prize in the modern dance category in the Certamen Internacional de Coregrafia en Danza 2007 choreographic competition for "Yield 360" in Spain . She has also created and priemered her work in Montreal , Canada at the Professional Project. She was an international touring company member with Shen Wei Dance Arts from 2008-2009 and was a dancer and rehearsal assistant with Abraham In Motion and Sidra Bell Dance New York . She began in arts education as a teaching assistant at The Ailey School's First Steps Program, helping to organize young children in creative movement. She has since been devoted to arts education through after school programs, dance studios, and high school and collegiate level programs, as assistant and head instructor.
