Shipley College's Learn Photography - Beginners course is designed for those who want to take control of their Digital SLR camera and move away from automatic settings.
This course is a fantastic opportunity for beginners to learn how to compose photos like the professionals in a variety of settings, and develop photo manipulation skills using Adobe Photoshop. To participate,
students must bring their own DSLR camera and instruction booklet as well as a flash drive (2 to 4 GB is sufficient). Basic computer knowledge is essential for this course. Please note, this course is not suitable for digital compact cameras or bridge cameras.
By completing this course, students will gain new photography knowledge and skills that will enable them to progress to our Learn Photography - Intermediate course. Whether you are looking to start a new career or just want to take better photos, this course is perfect for you."

We're located in the World Heritage Site of Saltaire, a village built for mill workers by Titus Salt in the late 1800s, and is popular with tourists from around the world. Just a short walk from our campus is Roberts Park, the River Aire and the Leeds to Liverpool Canal - it's a beautiful place to spend your days learning and making friends, if we do say so ourselves!
This beginners photography course will provide you with all the essential foundations on camera settings, composition and use of your equipment. With theory and practical lessons, together with assignments, you will be a more confident and knowledgeable photographer.
The workshop runs before and after lunch – the food you make in the afternoon session will be great to photo and then take home for dinner! Lunch, you make and, of course you get to eat your fabulous dishes whilst they are still hot!
Photography – lens and light-based media enables you to explore the camera and its manual settings, explore different photographic techniques and become familiar with a variety of film based and digital photographic equipment.
Are you interested in learning how to use your digital camera more effectively? This hands-on course will help to develop your understanding of your digital camera, whilst teaching you the basics of framing and composition. It's a great starting point if you wish to become a photographer.
This two-day course will cover the principles and theory of photographic lighting and relate these to the studio environment by practical demonstration and hands on application.
