Since 1999, we have been offering this workshop which emphasizes learning sound woodturning techniques. You will learn about and develop skills in the areas of safety, shaping and sharpening of tools, spindle, and bowl turning, how to use a pattern to make duplicate items, design and finishing.
Projects include: Beads, Fillets & Coves, Drawer Knob, Goblet, and Bowl. If you have not turned before this workshop is an ideal beginning. If you have turning experience we build on your skills. By the end of the workshop, you will be able to cut a clean surface off the tool and dramatically reduce the amount of sanding. You will also learn how to avoid catches so that you can turn with confidence.
In 1993, Black Forest Wood Company began making virtually anything out of solid wood. The lumber was stored in the front of house, and when clients would come through, they’d see a piece they like and ask to buy it, thus the retail aspect of BFW was born. From specializing in custom builds and exterior doors, to providing one of the largest varieties of wood species in Western Canada, Black Forest has evolved like any other thriving company. In November 2017 we ventured on our first epoxy pour, and in December one of our videos went viral on the internet. Since then we have been hard at work providing international clientele with the finest epoxy & wood tables.
Our retail store is merchandised with over 100 species of domestic and exotic wood. We stock carving blocks, knife blanks, instrument quality wood, “thins”, and turning squares to keep all makers making. In addition to our vast selection of wood, we are dealers for Laguna, Powermatic, Oneway and many others. Offering router bits, blades, abrasives, finishes, pyrography machines, turning tools and epoxy, we are your woodworking supply store.
Whether you are an experienced woodworker or a mere beginner we think everyone should have the opportunity to expand their skills, so we open up our shop for woodworking courses. We teach carving, turning, finishing, working with epoxy, guitar building, are few of the expertise you can pick up from our courses.
