In the heart of the Brooklyn Cultural District, the Mark Morris Dance Center, founded in 2001, is the hub of dance and music education in Brooklyn. The nine-studio building provides affordable classes in multiple genres for people of all ages, levels, with and without disabilities, accompanied by live music.
The studios, a performance space, a Wellness Center, and ancillary spaces are all available to the community and to nonprofit organizations at subsidized rates. MMDG’s Community Education Programs partner with public and private schools and community centers to provide customized classes.
MMDG also offers customized dance workshops for persons with Parkinson’s disease and their caregivers. MMDG programs in NYC and worldwide engage nearly 100,000 people annually.
Young dancers are introduced to the foundations of classical ballet technique in this engaging class with a positive, whole child approach to learning.
Ballet IÂ is for ages 5-7 who are excited to learn ballet. Children spend the class warming up, practicing exercises at the ballet barre, moving across the floor, stretching, and having time at the end of class to explore their own body movements
Studio J offers Ballet dance classes for students of all ages and abilities the opportunity to express themselves and their faith through the gift of dance. We seek to instill a love of dance, music, community, and the appreciation of the performing arts in our students.Â
This course are accompanied by a pianist and follow a traditional structure. Students begin at the barre, progress to the center, and culminate with travelling exercises across the floor.
The focused dancer will enjoy this class that starts with barre instruction and moves to center combinations. It creates strong, flexible and precise dancers, and those who take ballet classes generally do well in other dance styles because of its disciplined and structured approach to movement
