??Each session will offer the chance to use different skills, tools and machinery in a supportive, friendly setting whilst making items for our local community, environmental groups or for our community partners like Urban Ark – Manawa Taiao including:
timber basics, marking and measuring, hand-saws, and circular saws
power-tools such as planers, drop saws and bench saws
drills, bits and drill presses plus jigsaws and bandsaws
rotary tools (Dremel) and working with metal including cutting and grinding
basic joints, assembling work, screw/nail fixings, drivers and jigs
A place for women | wāhine to learn and share knowledge and skills to connect socially and work cooperatively. In a supportive and positive environment. To promote empowerment, health and well-being and have a shed load of fun along the way.
Our Carpentry programmes will provide you with the hands-on skills you need to start your career as a builder. With our workshop facilities, experienced teachers, industry connections and apprenticeship scheme, you’ll hit the ground running.
This class gives people the opportunity to develop skills and friendships as they work on their own project. Help with any problems is given by the tutor. Woodturning is also available. No recycled timber to be used.
The course is an introduction to basic carpentry skills and knowledge used in carpentry, building and construction and joinery industries taught in one of the wood workshops.
Participants will need to be able to carry their project a short distance from their car into the workshop and then back again to be stored at home between lessons. Participants should wear comfortable clothes, closed toe shoes and jewellery that will not get caught in any machinery.
