Traditionally an extension of ballet, jazz used to be known as “modern ballet”. It carries a lot of the same techniques as ballet, but is taught to modern music with a greater focus on self expression and inner groove.
The NZAMD syllabus follows barre techniques, floor, flexibility, combinations/dances and performance work. It covers lyrical, contemporary, hip hop, jazz funk and pure jazz.
While there is no set uniform for our classes, students must wear clothing they can move easily in and where the teacher can correct body form - tights and t-shirts/singlets are best. Jazz shoes are required for students sitting exams.

These fun energetic Jazz classes are structured on a progressional basis that starts at age 5 years old and progresses through 14 levels to Advanced and Solo Seal
An awesome dance training blending up to date 'urban' styles including jazz, hip hop, musical theatre and contemporary.
This class teaches students basic jazz techniques such as turns, leaps and jumps whilst combining musicality, stamina and control within the grade progressions. Exams are offered in this subject progressing from junior/beginner level through to teaching qualifications and diplomas.
Jazz is a solo dance style suitable for men and women. These courses are progressive and can be joined up to week 2 or 3.
