The 100-hour Korean course is a one-year course for Year 10 students who have not studied Korean before. This course is complemented by a range of interactive tasks enabling students to consolidate their learning.
A wide variety of audio and visual material presented through the e-learning site brings the study of the language and culture alive. Through this course, the students will develop their Korean language skills with the self-directed blended learning materials and weekly speaking lessons.
There are 32 modules to complete, ranging in topics from family, friends, sports, hobbies, and schools.
This course is designed for students with very little or no knowledge of Korean. In this course, students gain a wide exposure to the Korean language, culture and way of life through a course complemented by e-learning delivery and a rich array of audio and visual material.
The coursework consists of 8 modules in each term. The modules are set for self-directed study in Preliminary and HSC Korean Beginners courses. Students are expected to submit work regularly.
This includes handwritten submissions, interactive online tasks as well as speaking lessons via telephone and/or online conferencing tools. Weekly speaking lessons with the teacher are also a compulsory part of this course whereby students can develop their Korean speaking skills. Face-to-face lessons days are also organised for students to meet and interact with their peers at NSW School of Languages.
The Korean Continuers course is a blended learning course produced for Distance Education by NSW School of Languages. The preliminary course consists of 25 units and the HSC course consists of 19 units.
The course is comprehensive and aims to develop all four-skill areas. The learning materials are accessible online.
There is a wealth of self-correcting exercises so the students can get immediate feedback; there are also a variety of tasks which require students to consolidate their learning and to get examination practice. Speaking lessons are scheduled on a weekly basis with the aim of developing the students' conversational skills.
The coursework consists of 8 modules in each term. The courses are available through virtual learning space with a variety of stimuli to explore the study of the Issues.
There are weekly speaking lessons with their teacher to develop their understanding and receive feedback and support.
Face-to-Face or Virtual Lesson days are also held each term, providing students with first hand experiences of Korean cultures and language learning activities.

Student learning is supported through a diverse program of online learning materials, speaking lessons, video conferencing, online forums, email and study days at our school where students enjoy the opportunity to meet with other students and staff.
The use of the telephone and video conferencing ensure that students have close connections with their teachers, despite the fact that they are not in the same physical space. Our students are drawn from over 460 schools across the greater Sydney metropolitan area and other rural regions across New South Wales.
The school also offers Stage 6 English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) to students in regional government secondary schools. In the 2020 Higher School Certificate (HSC), 69% of our students achieved results above the state mean and NSW School of Languages students achieved First in State in 11 courses. Fifty-five students were placed in High Achievers List, earning marks placing them in top 5 in the state.
Of the 820 HSC students, 65% of students achieved a mark in the top two bands. Of the students studying an Extension course, 96% of students achieved in the top 2 bands.
The school has written new courses in Canvas for Year 9, 10, Year 11 and 12 Beginners and Extension students. These courses represent the latest pedagogy in online learning. Teachers will continue participating in professional learning on language pedagogy, assessment, and working with students with special needs.
Teachers at NSW School of Languages are experts in their language. More than half of the staff assist the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) to mark the HSC each year with a significant number involved in the setting or assessment of the examinations.
