RAD Discovering Repertoire
Discovering Repertoire: a classical ballet performance programme
Discovering Repertoire is an innovative new concept in training and assessment from the RAD.
Suitable for students from ages 12 through to adult, the three levels cater for those with some prior ballet experience (1–2 years of study, equivalent to Grade 2/3) through to those of a more advanced standard (upper grades/vocational grades).
Uniquely, it includes well-known classical repertoire, meaning students will learn and dance choreography that they have seen on the stage, set to music that they know and love
The Studio has been training dancers in Dunedin for over 60 years, many of whom have gone on to make dance their career. [Most recently Tatyana Carr accepted into fulltime training at the Alberta School Of Ballet in Canada. In 2019 Tat has been accepted to attend the Royal Danish Summer School.
Imogen Sorley graduating from the NZ School of Dance in 2013 & Jordan Mullin graduating from The Royal Ballet School London in 2012, now dancing with the Staatsballett Berlin]
Principal Robyn Sinclair feels that although this is a fantastic achievement, the most important part of learning dance is enjoyment. “Lets face it, most students attend class because they want to dance, if you produce a dancer, then that’s a bonus”
Teachers at the studio continue with their own professional development by attending courses & workshops to enhance their qualifications & knowledge.
Most recently new updates for NZAMD Jazz & all the RAD Ballet syllabi have been updated. The new jazz dances & combinations give the work a fresh & up-to-date look. The new ballet sylabii showcases pure classical technique alongside neo-classical movements with inspirational music.
