If you’re not sure which instrument to start with, you can never go wrong with the piano.
If you’re not sure which instrument to start with, you can never go wrong with the piano. Although the piano may be one of the most difficult instruments to truly master, it is an easy instrument to progress on initially as the notes will all play in tune with a beautiful sound.
If you think you might like to be a soloist, the piano is a great choice as pianists are able to play the melody and harmony at the same time.
Playing the piano improves coordination, builds hand strength and is a great way to develop musical knowledge which can easily be transferred to other instruments if you want to add another instrument.
Welcome to the Christchurch School of Music! The CSM is one of New Zealand’s greatest musical treasures, where tens of thousands of Christchurch children and adults have learned to love and appreciate music. CSM is a place where the whole family can learn music in the same place at the same time!
We also offer a wide range of orchestras, ensembles and performing groups for all ages and abilities.
I teach a wide range of pupils: from my youngest students in P1, all the way up to retirees; from absolute beginners through to ABRSM Diploma. I also have experience of working with pupils with particular learning needs; such as dyslexia, autism and PDA.
