Divided into small groups led by experienced music tutors, young musicians will learn how to read music, make a musical sound (not noise!) and get a taste of how to create and share music in a group. Depending on how quickly you grasp the instrument, you can step up to intermediate and advanced recorder groups.
Don't underestimate the recorder! Yes, it is deemed a very simple instrument, and many musicians may only pass through it as their first stepping stone to the world of music; however, it is a very beautiful instrument in its own right, coming in several different sizes, and can make very sophisticated ensemble music.
Whangarei Youth Music is a self funding, family orientated organisation created in 1980 to provide opportunities for the young people of Whangarei and surrounding areas to develop their musical skills and to experience the enjoyment of playing music together.
Our organisation is run by dedicated volunteers who manage and organise our groups to achieve excellence in public events and concerts. We invite you to participate in Whangarei Youth Music either as a volunteer or as a budding musician and see how you too can increase your love of music.
Music Theory classes are offered by Hastings Piano Teacher. Hastings piano teacher Wendy Hunt is the person for you. Wendy is happy to teach all, from young children to mature adults, from beginners to advanced students.Â
The Cadet band is for beginner musicians who can read some music (you don't have to know all of the notes as you can learn that along the way).
Encore offers group Music Theory classes whereby students gain an excellent grounding in theory by learning the skills/knowledge covered in the Trinity College Syllabus.
Band classes are offered by Crawshaw Music School. We are currently the largest provider of one on one lessons on the Kapiti Coast.
Commitment to regular attendance is important so that the class can progress together.
