UrbanPromise believes that all children have the potential to succeed academically and to become future leaders in our city. However, we know children in low-income communities need access to expanded learning time.
Research from the National Summer Learning Association tells us that summer learning loss accounts for up to two-thirds of the academic achievement gap between children from low-income communities and their higher-income peers [1].
For six weeks during the summer, UrbanPromise’s Summer Camps provide opportunities for elementary & middle school students to improve their academic performance, develop necessary life skills, create positive relationships with caring adults, explore the arts, and nurture their faith.
Goals for our students include:
The mission of urbanpromise charlotte is to provide charlotte's children and youth with the spiritual, academic, and social development necessary to become christian leaders determined to restore their communities.
Our video & movie making summer camps and after school programs fuse art and technology in a STEAM-based, collaborative environment that encourages young creators to explore their creative interests.
Your young chef can join us for our fun 5-day baking camps while they learn the basics of mixing, measuring, baking, kitchen safety and more! This class is recommended for ages 10 and up.
During our summer camp sessions we show our students how to use seasonal summer produce to create tasty, fresh meals from scratch with new recipes each day.
Do you often find yourself doodling characters in different positions, but always alone on a page, willing to move further? Are you a fan of comic art and animation, and would like to try your hand at it? Or, maybe, you draw comic books, and would like professional advice?
Camp mornings will be spent learning to craft a fresh and nutritious full meal, including, but not limited to, sauce making, working with different proteins, homemade pasta and sushi rolling. The afternoons will be focused on traditional baking techniques. Â
