Build My English was started in August 2012, by Richard Rose. He was an ESL teacher at West Valley Occupational Center (WVOC) and other adult schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District. He saw that these schools focused on grammar and that the classes were so large that students didn’t get enough personal attention.
Grammar is important. It gives students the structure they need to learn. However, children don’t learn English by taking grammar classes. They learn by speaking. Adults hear them speak and correct them when necessary. That is how children improve.
Students speak about short readings, audios, and videos that are used in class. The teacher helps students use correct grammar when they speak.
Students will read a passage & listen to an audio each session and answer questions about them. The topics will all be business-related.
We use actual materials from past TOEFL tests to help students improve their speaking, writing, listening, and reading skills. Our TOEFL teacher explains difficult concepts very clearly.
Students work on exercises to learn basic English grammar, including the simple present, present continuous, simple past, and simple future tenses.
