Welcome to Nibble, the Somerville Arts Council (SAC) initiative that celebrates culinary-cultural exchange, spurs cultural economic development & supports immigrant communities. Nibble grew out of SAC’s ArtsUnion project, which has transformed Union Square, Somerville through innovative cultural economic development work.
Nibble started with tours of Union Square’s international markets; these spawned a blog, then a book. Next we added cooking classes, then food festivals like the Ignite Festival, and next, a culinary entrepreneurship program that includes vending opportunities.
Read about the overall Nibble program in this Boston Globe article from July 19, 2017. Nibble remains a multifaceted program, including public programming, the entrepreneurship program focused on our rich immigrant communities, and the Nibble restaurant.
This class will be hands-on, so you will be making your own dough, pasta shapes and sauce. During the class you will be able to transform the simple tomato sauce (vegetarian) into bolognese sauce for a hearty option (non-vegetarian).
Laap is a delicious savory and herbaceous meat salad that is slightly spicy, yet refreshing from the fresh dill, spring onions, and cilantro, all tossed in a citrusy umami vinaigrette.
South Asian Cuisine is offered by Nibble Kitchen for all ages and skill levels. Desi Yums will teach you how you can quickly add South Asian flair into your meals, and convey how South Asian food can be a lot more than chicken tikka masala.
