You must be enthusiastic and love working with children. You must also speak Mandarin Chinese. Confidence is a must as singing in front of large groups of people is essential (don't worry you don't need to be X Factor Final standard, but you should be able to carry a tune).

China is one of the oldest civilizations in the world, dating back more than six millennia. In 1978, it embarked on a period of reforms and it went from an agrarian economy to the world's third-largest trading nation behind the United States and Germany.

All our language classes are centered around our students and have been designed to develop practical language skills. Each course will run from September to May. Each week you will attend a two-hour class to help progress and consolidate your learning around the four core skills of listening.

China will play a major role in world affairs in the future. Chinese is the language most spoken in the world! One out of five people is Chinese. If you can speak Chinese, you can communicate with more people different from yourself than with any other language.

This semester the Language Centre will be offering over 80 classes in 14 different languages. Classes range from Beginners to Post A level and are available in  Mandarin Chinese. This semester we will have both online and in person teaching. 

Parents across Europe are encouraging their children to learn another language from an early age. They send them to language academies at the weekend, after the school day or bring in a tutor and they learn Chinese. How many language academies/after schools clubs exist here.

Explore Chinese culture, one of the world’s oldest and richest continuous cultures, which is over 5000 years old. Engage with Chinese communities worldwide with over 873 million people speaking Mandarin as their mother tongue.

This course is for learners who already have some knowledge of the language, familiar with the use of Pinyin and can recognise some characters, be able to do simple self introduction and have basic conversation about name, nationalities, age, profession, time, and weather.

We offer a wide variety of languages from complete beginners through to advanced level. If you're unsure of your level, you can take our online test designed to determine the best class for you. Classes take place in the evening or on Saturdays.

There is no doubt that written Chinese is difficult to learn – even for the Chinese! But the spoken language is another matter.
