The Barista Fundamentals course at Merchant Coffee Roasters is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to become proficient in the art/science of coffee making.
This course will cover all aspects of coffee preparation, including the basics of espresso, daily set up of the coffee machine and grinder (Dialling in), milk steaming, and maintenance of the coffee making instruments.
Students will learn about the importance of quality control in coffee making to ensure the customer receives an amazing coffee every time. Most of all, we teach our students to have fun and enjoy making a beautiful coffee.
WHERE IT BEGAN
Dean first met Mat after moving back to Australia from Singapore in the middle of 2018. They immediately became friends as their lives were very similar, Italian heritage, married with three young boys and a love for great coffee.
BACKGROUND
Dean's background is in the sports industry. His role in Singapore before moving back to Australia was as General Manager of Asia and the middle east for an Australian Company. The predominant requirement of the role was to develop the company throughout Asia and the Middle east.
While living in Singapore Dean and his wife were always in search of good coffee but it was very hard to find. This is what gave him the idea to bring Merchant Coffee to Singapore as he knew the products tasted and looked great, therefore it would do well in Singapore where there is a large expat presence.

Learn all the secrets behind creating the perfect espresso, latte, cappuccino, macchiato and flat white. Once you have learnt to pour the perfect coffee, refine your latte art with some free-pouring styles, then try your hand at some etching as well. Maximum class size of 5.
