In The Chado Tea Ceremony Class,

  • You will learn each step of the process behind an authentic urasenke tea ceremony, taught to you by lifelong Japanese practitioners in an intimate class size.
  • The kind and capable instructors behind the Urasenke Tankokai Vancouver Association will take you from tea novice to ceremony practitioner throughout 4 Saturdays this Winter 2024.

  • The History of tea ceremonies in Japan, and the Urasenke School of tea ceremony
  • Etiquette before, during, and after the ceremony
  • Names and handling of utensils
  • How to brew the tea, and proper movements
  • Bon-ryaku temae, or the final ceremonial procedure

Our Mission

  • Is to honor, preserve, and share the history and heritage of Japanese Canadians and Japanese culture in Canada.
  • Since September 22, 2000, our multi-use space, featuring a Japanese Canadian garden located in Burnaby, BC, has offered unique programming, exhibits, and events, as a community place open to all.
  • Within the museum repository we care for 3000+ objects, 52,500+ photographs, 50+ meters of textual records, 670+ oral history recordings, and 191 film reels of historically and culturally significant items.
  • Community engagement and best practices ensure the legacies of people of Japanese ancestry in Canada live on into the future.
