The purpose of contemporary dance is to let the dancer express his or her inner emotions to the audience. The dancer tells a story to the audience, that is generally sad or depressing in hopes of making them an emotion. It’s important to look for the right class because contemporary dance progresses with each level and involves some difficult techniques.

Contemporary Dance is a specific style of dance that is free form and stems from the core, or torso, of the body and uses elements like contact-release, floor work, fall and recovery, and improvisation. You can start dancing contemporary at 3 years old where we teach movement. Most of the pioneers contemporary dance started taking classes at an early age or even later. You don’t have to be SUPER flexible to dance (oversplits, crazy stuff, etc) but some level of flexibility is needed. Even the most inflexible person can become flexible if they are willing to put the work into it.
