This is a dance and fitness programme designed and choreographed by the professionals on Strictly Come Dancing with Mark Foster (Olympic swimmer). Fitsteps is a mix of the graceful steps of Ballroom and the up tempo steps of the Latin dances to create a really fun, energetic and effective way to stay fit and keep trim that would appeal to everyone, even if you can’t dance!
Dance City is a vibrant and friendly place where people come together to take part, enjoy, experience and talk about dance; where professional and aspiring dancers meet, learn and train; somewhere to watch world class dance performances and somewhere for all to come along and get involved in dance.
People come to Dance City to socialise, learn new skills, keep fit and active, train professionally and find out more about dance. This all takes place under one roof, in our purpose-built dance-house, in the heart of Newcastle upon Tyne.
Established for over 30 years Dance City is the North East’s leading development organisation for dance, which exists to lead and support a thriving dance ecology in the region.
We present a regular programme of dance performances from contemporary to ballet, world to breakdance bringing leading North East, British and International dance to Newcastle. We also commission original new works, which premiere in our theatre.
We offer weekly classes in many different styles of dance – open to all ages and for absolute beginners as well as more experienced dancers.
From contemporary to hip hop, ballet to ballroom, belly dancing to Pilates, from bumps to 55+ and for adults with learning disabilities, Parkinson’s and dementia– our classes are an excellent way to stay fit and healthy, learn new skills, have fun and meet new people.
Dance City’s Engagement Team offers workshops to schools outside of our landmark building to engage with people and champion best practice in participatory dance across the region.
Our Engagement Coordinators also work with partners to create bespoke projects as a way of engaging hard to reach groups, for celebratory events, for well-being and simply for fun! Every year we work with 8000+ people of all ages in a variety of settings in the North East.
We also offer formal dance training through our Training Academy for talented young people aged 10 through to postgraduate level and we support professional dance artists and choreographers.
Dance City receives funding from Arts Council England, as a National Portfolio funded organisation.
Conditioning classes are offered by Timms School of Dance. Students are encouraged to develop at their own pace which helps to make them feel at ease and confident, learning a new skill whilst having lots of fun, and making lots of new friends.
Our Stretch classes blend stretching movement with the graceful control of dance to tone and invigorate the body and release stress.
Get ready to strengthen your whole body! This class features exercises on the mat and at the barre, working on toning and sculpting each area of the body. Particularly great for targeting the core and the bottom! Courtney keeps you working with motivating music and instruction.
Strength and Flexibility classes are offered by Pandora's Aerial Fitness Studio. Our vision is to create classes that have something for everyone, whether you want to get fit, lose weight, get stronger, become more flexible or learn something new.
Stretch & Flexibility Classes are offered by Dance Revolution. We aim is to provide the highest quality dance classes with the best and most experienced dance teachers.
