History
The San Antonio Botanical Garden was first imagined nearly eight decades ago by civic influencers Mrs. R. R. Witt and Mrs. Joseph Murphy. Forty years of planning and partnerships finally blossomed on May 3, 1980, with the official opening of the Botanical Garden.
Since that day, the formal gardens and collections of native Texas plants have evolved to make the Botanical Garden one of the most noteworthy botanical centers in the state, educating and inspiring guests from around the world.
You’ll start by preparing a corn and avocado salad topped with a refreshing honey-lime vinaigrette. Next, you'll learn how to craft Oaxacan-style chicken mole with rich chocolate sauce, infused with a wide array of spices.
Get ready for a night of Southern hospitality and delicious comfort food with our Southern Comfort-themed cooking class. We'll show you how to whip up classic dishes like Shrimp and Grits and Sausage and Chicken Gumbo that will transport your taste buds to the deep South.
Oaxaca is among the most biodiverse regions of Mexico. Corn, beans (particularly black beans) and chiles reign supreme, along with more than 50 edible species of mushrooms and unforgettable complex moles.
Come learn the essence of Mexican and Southwestern cuisine. We will cover traditional carnitas, fajitas, homemade tortillas, guacamole, queso, and salsa, as well as enchiladas and tortilla soup culminating with creative margheritas!
