At Women’s Health in South Tyneside (WHiST) our mission is to improve the health, wellbeing, education and quality of life of women aged over 16 years old living in South Tyneside, irrespective of age, class, sexual orientation, ethnicity or disability.
WHiST was originally established in 1986 by a group of local women working voluntarily to address gaps in services and support. It has developed services in response to identified local needs and flourished into its present form as a result of this.
Volunteers have always formed the backbone of the organisation and WHiST would not be the organisation it is without their involvement.
Our services offer a “wrap around” holistic model of support allowing women to find a route through support to suit their changing needs.
We work in collaboration with other agencies in order to streamline our services and to ensure that we are addressing gaps and making a positive difference for the women accessing them.
We evaluate and monitor our services gathering user feedback in order to make improvements and to ensure that members benefit from the support and services.
Our work compliments South Tyneside’s Health and Wellbeing Strategy and Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA), which identified an increasing demand to provide integrated care and inter-agency working through local services to maintain and improve people’s health and wellbeing, ensuring they remain as independent, active, safe and as well as possible.
