Our Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements.
Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Our Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements.
It is a dance style that can be used to provoke many different thoughts and can be performed with many purposes.
Contemporary movement can challenge a dancers centre of gravity and require them to have strength and power in both their upper and lower body, this is so the body can leap and jump with good elevation as well as be controlled and smooth for the more lyrical aspect of the movement.
Improvisation features heavily within this style for its training benefits of freeing the body from habitual movement patterns.
Dance improvisation is used as a tool for creating new movement but is also important because it assists students to think on the spot, make quick decisions, and trust their technique.
Students can study a comprehensive range of dance styles including Ballet (R.A.D. and A.C.B Australian Conservatoire Of Ballet (Vaganova)), Jazz, Hip Hop, Lyrical, Contemporary, Glenn Wood Tap, Musical Theatre, Pilates and Conditioning from experienced professional instructors from four purpose-built studios in Jardine Street Fairy Meadow.
