An exciting collaboration with Willys ACV. Fermentation is the magical process of transforming a food product into something tastier, longer lasting and better for our health.
It’s no coincidence that many of our favourite foods are made using fermentation techniques. Wine, cheese, beer and bread all contain complex flavour profiles which stimulate our palates and leave us wanting more.
Fermenting at home allows us to experiment with these interesting flavours as well as preserving waste food and boosting our gut health. It’s no wonder fermentation is fast becoming a popular new hobby for food lovers.
Why ferment?
The Abinger Cookery School hosts several four-hour barbecue cooking classes that have been curated to showcase all the necessary skills students will need to perfect an exciting variety of tasty charcoal and gas barbecue dishes.
In the heart of the Surrey Hills, a pub was lovingly turned into The Abinger Cookery School and is run by a group of food-loving enthusiasts.
The school offers a personal approach to cookery lessons. We teach in small groups, allowing time to get to know you and to encourage you to improve your cooking skills.
We endeavour to work with as many local businesses as possible.
Delving into the world of fermentation brings up lots of practical skills you can build on. For example, as well as introducing the art of fermentation, the class equips you with shortcuts to ferment at home. We learn about the processes and concepts behind fermenting delicious foods and drinks.
Join us for an evening to learn and practice different recipes to pickle and ferment food. Picking and fermentation techniques date back 1000s of years, and can be found across all food cultures. Many of the foods and drinks we consume today are the result of these preservation techniques.
You make your own traditional kimchi from scratch.
Our series of Fermentation classes show you how to ferment at home, and this class is designed to be the inspiration for what to do next. We will show what you can do with all your ferments, including kombucha, sauerkraut, kimchi, tempeh, fermented batters and cashew cheeses.
